quite the frick frock

frick frock 5
latest: this dress was designed inspired by a work of art at the  Frick Collection in NYC. (like mah friend over here who has posted just below me)
As I was searching through the collection, my eye really caught this painting. I think it was the soft colors and shapes used in creating the portrait, and as I continued to look at it, I found the innocence and beauty of the girl intriguing. I had this lovely floral fabric in my house and created the silhouette and neckline of the dress based on the innocence and beauty in the work of art. I also ended up using a leaf-shaped stitch on the hem to further the natural feeling in the dress as well as using a braid at the waistline inspired by the braid in the girl's hair.

I adapted a bodice pattern i had drafted earlier on (which originally had sleeves) so that it would have that funk-ay neckline. Theeeeen I paired that with a gathered circle skirt and closed it up with a modern zipper (thanks for the loan, daph).

Painting:
Francois Boucher, French (1703-1770)
(Workshop of) Girl with Roses (1760)
Oil on Canvas

Happy Summering!

  4. Thanks for the compliment on my blog. You guys are very talented. I wish I could get my fashion sketches to be that good. I also wish I could sew too. I have a tendency to break sewing machines.
