Toy/Game-Inspired Art

(photos by Zoe)

Hello! I have a new art project underway.
I will be doing a huge installation/interaction piece, meaning it will be a large, wooden structure which the viewers will be able to interact with (move it around, pose with it, photograph themselves with it).

This is inspired by
1. Those flippy books that are lazer cut into 3 sections -- you can flip the top, middle or bottom and different animal parts are revealed. You know those?
2. The face-in-holes at carnivals, fairs and festivals.
3. Those games that are puzzles with little sliding squares with one empty space so you eventually line up the picture.

I will make a ~6' high x ~9' wide wooden structure with 3 horizontal sliding tracks, where the paintings will go back and forth. You stand behind the structure, and see either 1, 2 or 3 parts of your own body! Is that clear..?

I have started 3 of 9 canvases--here I have shown the "Monster Middle." (Acrylic on canvas, ~18" x 24".)

See the first photo above to get the best mental picture of this-- the one leg that lines up well really shows it.

Happy Weekend!

2 thing(s) to say:

  1. That's such a good idea! :D I love doing those face-in-hole thingies at carnivals and stuff. I can't wait to see the finished product!
