50's Inspired Music Awards Design

Below is the design I made for this Cornell design contest. Admissions are now closed. You can see Alice's design here.

The shorts are a seal gray velvet with a waistband to pull together a semi-stiff structured top. The idea is to design an outfit for a music awards ceremony - these events are more of a modern fashion opportunity than the Oscars might be - allowing for a non-evening-gown option, as seen below:

I took inspiration from this "sweet southern charm 50's dress."

Above is the inspiration for the neckline I designed - but I used a more modern approach with a stiff cotton-silk winged idea.
